[11:07] Sloan Skjellerup: juiciness*?
[11:08] Harper Beresford: no! and I don't want to hear him talk sex!

[11:14] JenzZa Misfit: ...and then someone can IM me and tell me what all they are saying on twitter ! <--- joke .. seriously
[11:14] Sonja Strom: IYan, I think we all like Metanomics here.
[11:14] Bevan Whitfield: (go to the web site a lot http://metanomics.net)
[11:14] Cybergrrl Oh: Yay Metanomics & Yay Beyers
[11:14] Malburns Writer: Tks IYan
[11:14] Cybergrrl Oh is not a brown-noser
[11:15] JenzZa Misfit: ........ 99 bottles of Woot on the wall ..... 99 bottles of Woot .......
[11:15] Bevan Whitfield: LOL JennZa!!!
[11:15] Almo Schumann: It's more of a mocha nose, Cyber..
[11:15] JenzZa Misfit: WE ARE LIVE !
[11:15] Sloan Skjellerup: ya huh! woo hoo
[11:18] Joia Sands: Audio is cutting out occasionally
[11:18] Cybergrrl Oh: yep, same for me - cutting out his lovely voice
[11:18] Dancer Morris: we're probably straining the bandwidth available from the server
[11:19] Sloan Skjellerup: it's working great here
[11:19] Cybergrrl Oh: We're always straining the bandwidth
[11:19] Zha Ewry: Better than having nobody listen
[11:19] Sloan Skjellerup: knock on wood ... Hold your head still Cyber ;-) I'm knocking
[11:19] Venus Jervil: please say this in text too, missing chunks
[11:20] Venus Jervil: gone
[11:20] Zha Ewry: backchat... that sound *so* much more dignified than what we normally do
[11:20] Cybergrrl Oh holding head still for Sloan
[11:20] Sloan Skjellerup: TY ;-)
[11:20] Sloan Skjellerup: phew ...
[11:21] Sonja Strom: he looks bored
[11:21] Malburns Writer: Richard looks like me - the "forever noob" effect!
[11:22] Sonja Strom: lol
[11:22] Sloan Skjellerup: lol Malburns
[11:25] Quinn Houston: I'm watching it on my tv at home, I totally forgot to show up! Most of my tv watching is all about this group :)
[11:32] Beyers Sellers: did I crash?
[11:32] Beyers Sellers: guess not :)
[11:33] IYan Writer: good point
[11:34] Temporal Mitra: the four categories cover the main character personalities in a GAME...second life is not a game....it has no end..no goal...no winner...no loser...no score.....games have all of those...second life has none of them
[11:34] IYan Writer: TM: no, SL has 6 other types :) based on Market Truths report (transcript will be on SL Business communicators blog)
[11:34] Cindy Ecksol: oh, I don't know -- he makes a good case for the categories being fairly generic
[11:34] Fleep Tuque: I came in late, anyone able to recap the 4 categories?
[11:35] IYan Writer: (SL types: Team Player, Entrepreneur, Apprehensive, Competitor, Connector, Chameleon)
[11:35] Prokofy Neva: explorer, adventurer um
[11:35] IYan Writer: fleep: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartle_Test
[11:35] Fleep Tuque: thx!
[11:40] Malburns Writer: guess augmentalists are thus simply well-grounded immersionists then
[11:42] Fleep Tuque: SEAK players are usually very interested in the the 'total experience' of a virtual world--meeting other people and finding the unique places within it. They don't care much for PVP or levelling, but meeting up with online friends to see new parts of the world is usually fun and exciting. Breakdown: Achiever 53.33%, Explorer 60.00%, Killer 20.00%, Socializer 66.67%
[11:42] Fleep Tuque: (My results of the Bartle Index questionairre) ;)
[11:43] Prokofy Neva: question for Richard: you've written about the definition of griefing on TN and commented that people are diluting its meaning in SL. But the working definition of "disruption of immersion" seems appropriate. What would you say about not only the definition but remedies for griefing in VWs? More immersion?
[11:43] Aldon Huffhines: Malburns (et al), comments on my recasting of Immie v Augie recasting at http://www.orient-lodge.com/node/2836 would be apprecaited at some point.
[11:43] Malburns Writer: k Aldon
[11:44] Beyers Sellers: got it prok
[11:44] Beyers Sellers: any other questions, folks?
[11:44] Angelle Marquette waves to Beyers
[11:45] Fleep Tuque: Hm, not sure if I would agree with that re: your first experience determines the yardstick by which you measure all others.
[11:45] Beyers Sellers: like a first kiss?
[11:45] Fleep Tuque: I first began mudding in 94, a lot has changes since then and so have my expectations.
[11:46] Fleep Tuque: re kiss laugh! I should hope not. :)
[11:46] Zha Ewry: I hit my first MUD like space in 1986...
[11:46] Zha Ewry: I think we bring ideas along, but ...
[11:46] Zha Ewry: Defines?
[11:46] Zha Ewry: Nah
[11:46] Sloan Skjellerup: Man, you guys are OLD!
[11:46] Sloan Skjellerup: ;-)
[11:46] Bevan Whitfield: lol Sloan
[11:46] IYan Writer walks with a cane
[11:46] Fleep Tuque brings out the cane to thwap Sloan.
[11:46] IYan Writer: .. so I can poke annoying kids!
[11:46] Sloan Skjellerup: *Ouch*!
[11:46] Fleep Tuque: laugh
[11:47] Zha Ewry: You mean yo don't all have e-mail addresses from 1981?
[11:47] IYan Writer: not the !uucp ones Zha ;)
[11:47] Zachh Cale: Yes but only because old PC went back to that date when the battery died?? lol
[11:47] Fleep Tuque: I'd rather argue that my Sl experience has _completely_ reset my expectations of virtual worlds AND games. WoW, LoTR, they hold zero appeal to me now because they seem unbelievably static.
[11:47] Zha Ewry: !ucbvax
[11:48] Zha Ewry: !ucbvax!brown!
[11:48] Zha Ewry wimpers
[11:48] Fleep Tuque: I am waiting, in fact, for a game which allows the co-creation abilities of SL, I'd like to see a good hybrid.
[11:48] Cindy Ecksol: SEAK players are usually very interested in the the 'total experience' of a virtual world--meeting other people and finding the unique places within it. They don't care much for PVP or levelling, but meeting up with online friends to see new parts of the world is usually fun and exciting. Breakdown: Achiever 33.33%, Explorer 80.00%, Killer 6.67%, Socializer 80.00%
[11:48] Prokofy Neva: But I've achieved level 55 in Strategic SL
[11:48] Cindy Ecksol: interesting exercise...
[11:49] Fleep Tuque: laugh Prok
[11:49] Prokofy Neva: I have let's see 22 Linden calling cards
[11:49] Beyers Sellers: anyone have a link to the indi mmo convention richard is talking about?
[11:49] Dahlia Trimble: strategic sl?
[11:49] Aldon Huffhines tries to remember his path from pyuxcc through pyuxj to mhux? ihnp? to ucbvax
[11:49] Prokofy Neva: I got the Philip bear and the place in the speaker's queue in Ambleside
[11:49] Fleep Tuque: Beyers: http://www.imgdc.com/ perhaps?
[11:50] Prokofy Neva: I got the third piece of land purchased next to an actual Linden l and the other day, that boosted me up to 55
[11:50] Dahlia Trimble: I'm a tiny empires exile, does that count?
[11:52] Zha Ewry: Absolutely Dahlia
[11:53] Cindy Ecksol: everyone creating their own world := opensim
[11:53] Prokofy Neva: opensim=closed society, no
[11:53] Prokofy Neva: you have to be a tekkie wiki to work the levers in opensim so it's not free and not open
[11:53] Fleep Tuque: was that a question, Prok, or a statement?
[11:53] Prokofy Neva: Second Life, the hated walled garden is free and open
[11:54] Fleep Tuque: nm, I think you answered it with your follow up, I'm just slow typing. :)
[11:54] Bjerkel Eerie: We all continuely create our own worlds wheather we are logged on or offline
[11:54] Cindy Ecksol: guess it depends on your point of view....
[11:54] Dahlia Trimble: openlifegrid is pretty open
[11:54] Prokofy Neva: no Cindy, it depends on whether you are a skilled technical elitist or not, that's all
[11:54] Prokofy Neva: that will affect your perception of "open"
[11:54] Cindy Ecksol: ..if you're a techie, opensim would not seem so closed...
[11:54] Fleep Tuque: Hm, does he think WoW folks don't explore anything BUT WoW??
[11:55] Prokofy Neva: then it is closed, because it requries a knowledge level up and skills and admittance into a credentialed elite
[11:55] Fleep Tuque: Anecdotally from friends, I doubt that very much.
[11:55] Bjerkel Eerie: we all play WOW in the closet
[11:55] Fleep Tuque: And FWIW, I am in SL due to a beta invite from a WoW friend.
[11:55] Temporal Mitra: ok...prokofy...how can you equate someone being skilled with being elitist?...if you want to be part of the "elite"...you just have to learn...no one is keeping anyone out....
[11:55] Sonja Strom: Sometimes I create my own virtual world in my head.
[11:55] Dahlia Trimble considers opensim extremely open, but admits it takes some rudimentary technical knowledge to download and run
[11:56] Prokofy Neva: A world that requires people to get a credentialed license to live in it is fascistic in nature, Temporal, don't be silly.
[11:56] Sonja Strom: Maybe everyone could have their own virtual world in their head?
[11:56] Temporal Mitra: especially since it is in development...you expect something that is being created, to be simple enough for even you to use it?
[11:56] Fleep Tuque: OpenSim is in such an early stage of development, I think that's a red herring argument, actually. It may be complicated to install right now, but heck it's just out of the gate. There will be a day when it's as easy to install as anything else.
[11:56] Prokofy Neva: Opensim will face the exact same bridges the Lindens had to cross to make it usable by customers
[11:56] Beyers Sellers: they call that imagination, sonja!
[11:56] Bjerkel Eerie: using a light bulb is eleatist....2 billion people on teh planet lack electircity
[11:57] Prokofy Neva: you can keep ranting about how you can "just go to university and learn to be a coder" but at the end of the day, you, too, like the geeky hippie Lindens will have to decide: do you want customers, or do you want to go on being "right"?
[11:57] Fleep Tuque: The real question is, right Prok, in the interoperability arena.
[11:57] Prokofy Neva: the lightbulb connects to a switch on/off. SL is not an on/off switch but 12039890127293874 switches that don't even work intutively
[11:57] Aldon Huffhines: / I just want to be a geeky hippie.
[11:57] Prokofy Neva: listen to the man please
[11:58] Dahlia Trimble is too young to be a geeky hippy :(
[11:58] Temporal Mitra: Prokofy...that is like expecting the wright brother's first airplane to be so simple that anyone could fly it?
[11:58] Fleep Tuque hands Aldon a pocket protector and a pair of free trade birkenstock knock offs.
[11:58] Bjerkel Eerie: funny I just push teh start button my grandaughter showed me to play sl
[11:58] Sloan Skjellerup: Aldon Huffhines <--- yup
[11:59] Temporal Mitra: were the wright brothers elitist, because they were the only pilots in the world at the time?
[11:59] Sonja Strom: SL is more complex than a text game...
[11:59] Fleep Tuque: (SL folks aren't players..)
[12:00] Bjerkel Eerie: "Elitist" charges are just not a useful verbal construct in this dialog, but a why to demonize others
[12:00] Sloan Skjellerup: Who has a 'geeky hippie' t-shirt I want one!!!
[12:01] IYan Writer: the trick is to show up early ;)
